Carpet One Floor & Home in Columbia, MO is your local retailer for all things flooring, including tile. We can help you let out your creative side with new tile in your home. Tile has the ability to be installed on not just your floors, but also on your walls and on the outside of your home. Our flooring professionals are here to help you choose the perfect tile options for your next home project.
Since tiles are made with natural materials like sand and clay, they are considered a “green” flooring option for your home. Not only that, but tiles are also incredibly durable and allergy friendly.
Below, Jim Aaron explains how to choose the perfect tile for your home.
What are the Different Types of Tile?
We have three main tile options to choose from including: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.
If you are looking for tile for your kitchen or bathroom, then ceramic and porcelain are two of the most popular options. Both are made from the same materials, but porcelain is classified by its density and resistance to moisture. Ceramic tile is budget friendly, and comes in a wide variety of styles. Porcelain is popular because of how durable it is. Both options come in a wide variety of colors, styles, and patterns to choose from. We also carry stone tile, which is a natural material. Since not all stone is quarried from the same location, no two slabs look alike meaning you can have a totally custom floor in your home.
To determine the type of tile you need, first you need to know the room you want to install it in. Tile comes in different densities. Some are denser and can handle wear and moisture better than others. Even the glaze on a tile can determine how stain resistant it is. For bathroom and kitchen tile, choosing something that is dense and slip resistant is definitely a good way to go.
